We’re responsible for the things we produce. To the value or vulgarity it leaves behind. With everything we make, we should be considering what it says about the creator (us) and how we value the creation (the world). Are we making things better? Or just adding noise? Apple gets this like no one else. And is successful like no one else.
We’re keenly aware that when we develop and make something and bring it to market that it really does speak to a set of values. And what preoccupies us is that sense of care, and what our products will not speak to is a schedule, what our products will not speak to is trying to respond to some corporate or competitive agenda. We’re very genuinely designing the best products that we can for people.
The long awaited update to my code editor of choice, Coda, hits the app store later this week with loads of handy new features (Code Folding, CSS Pops). I’ve strayed many times, but I always come home. And don’t miss Diet Coda—Coda for iPad.
Dark Rift
A lovely story about the origins and digitization of the original cut of our most beloved typeface.
Hey there, I'm Chance and this is what I do. I’ve been designing things for the internet and screens since 2007. I spend my days art directing millions of pixels at Apple. Previously, I did interface and product things with Big Cartel.
At heart I am a curious tinkerer—always observing, learning, breaking, scheming, designing, making. I have a strong affection for minimalism, typography, grids, restraint and good user experience.
On a personal note, I was born and raised in the mighty midwest but call the Bay Area home. Away from the screen I spend my time exploring life with my wife, Jenny, and pup, Rylee (there's a cat too, but I'm sure she doesn't like me). I enjoy burritos, bikes, books, puns, boarding, films, music, mountains, oceans and Jesus.
